Saudi National Day: Commemorating the Unification of the Kingdom on February 22
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia celebrates National Day on February 22 each year, marking the anniversary of the country’s unification under King Abdulaziz Al Saud in 1932, when he issued a royal decree to unite the nation under the name of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
On this day every year, the streets and squares of Saudi cities are adorned with green flags and images of scholars and King Salman bin Abdulaziz, celebrating this precious national occasion. Citizens and residents organize numerous celebratory events and activities, including air, sea, and land shows, fireworks displays, folk festivals, musical concerts, and more.
Saudi Minister of Culture, Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan Al Saud, said in a statement on the occasion of National Day: “National Day is an occasion that we all take pride in as Saudis, for it is a day when we remember King Abdulaziz Al Saud’s efforts in unifying the country and establishing the third Saudi state, and we draw inspiration from it for determination and resolve to continue the development and prosperity journey that the Kingdom is witnessing under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and his faithful Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman.”
The minister added: “National Day is also an opportunity to renew loyalty and belonging to the dear homeland, express our love and pride for it, and stand united behind our wise leadership in facing challenges and achieving the aspirations of our generous people.”
The General Authority for Statistics has released data showing that the population of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reached 35 million people by the end of 2022, an increase of 2.3% compared to the previous year, according to population estimates. The data also indicated that the number of Saudi citizens reached approximately 21 million, representing 60% of the total population, while the number of foreign residents reached about 14 million, representing 40%.
In this context, the official spokesperson for the General Authority for Statistics, Taysir Al-Mufarrej, said that “the population growth witnessed by the Kingdom reflects the political, security, economic, and social stability it enjoys, as well as its attractiveness to investments and competencies from various countries around the world. This growth also contributes to enhancing the Kingdom’s role as an important regional and international center in various fields.”
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia celebrates its 92nd National Day this year, as the first official celebration of this occasion was in 1965, by order of King Faisal bin Abdulaziz. Since then, National Day has become an official holiday in all government and private sectors, and receives widespread attention from both citizens and residents alike.
In conclusion, Saudi National Day is a precious national occasion close to the hearts of all Saudis, during which they remember their glorious history and the sacrifices of their fathers and grandfathers in unifying the country and building the modern state. It is also an opportunity to express loyalty and belonging to the dear homeland and look forward to a brighter and more prosperous future under the green banner of unification.

  • Filippo Inzaghi: From Pitch Legend to Coaching Star

In the world of football, few have achieved success both as players and coaches. However, Filippo Inzaghi, the former Italian star, has proven his worth in both fields, becoming one of the most prominent names in the history of the beautiful game.

Born on August 9, 1973, in Pavia, Italy, Inzaghi began his football career with Piovese in the Italian third division. But his exceptional talent for finishing attacks caught the attention of bigger clubs, leading him to move to Piacenza and then Atalanta, where he shone brightly, scoring 15 goals in his first season in the Italian league.

In the summer of 1995, Inzaghi joined Juventus for €15 million, marking the beginning of his rise with “The Old Lady.” Over five seasons, he scored 57 goals in 120 matches, winning the league title twice, the Italian Cup, and the Italian Super Cup.

However, the highlight of his playing career was with Milan, where he moved in 2001 for €43 million. With “The Rossoneri,” Inzaghi won all possible titles, including the UEFA Champions League twice, the Italian league once, the UEFA Super Cup twice, and the FIFA Club World Cup once. On the international stage, Inzaghi was one of the heroes of Italy’s 2006 World Cup victory, despite his limited playing time.

Inzaghi retired from playing in 2012 to begin his coaching career with Milan, where he led the first team for two seasons. But his real experience began with Benevento in the Italian second division, where he led them to promotion to Serie A for the first time in the club’s history.

In 2019, Inzaghi took charge of Bologna, leading them to a high position in the Italian league. But his greatest achievement so far was with Lazio, where he took over in 2021. In his first season, he led “The Eagles” to win the Italian Cup, and in the following season, he won the Italian Super Cup against Inter Milan.

Inzaghi says about his coaching philosophy: “I like high pressing and quick counter-attacks. I want my team to play with ferocity and a desire to win until the last moment.”

He added in press statements: “I learn every day from my players and other coaches. I try to develop myself constantly to keep up with the tactical developments in the game.”

With Lazio, Inzaghi presents an entertaining

  • Incomplete Squad: Challenges of the New Season

The new season of the Saudi Professional League opened with an unexpected surprise, as Al-Raed team found itself playing its opening match with a depleted squad, raising questions about the team’s readiness for the upcoming challenges.

The team had lost its attacking midfielder Abdulaziz Al-Jibreen during the summer transfer period, in addition to the injury of Polish striker Arkadiusz Milik in the team’s last training session before the season. These sudden absences left Argentine coach Gustavo Alfaro in a difficult position, especially with the limited time to find suitable alternatives.

In a statement to the club’s sports director, he explained that “the team faces great challenges at the beginning of the season, but we trust in the ability of the technical staff and available players to provide a respectable performance.”

It is worth noting that the Al-Raed team had finished last season in eighth place, and this season aspires to improve its ranking among the league teams. But with such a depleted start, the team may find itself in an early predicament that is difficult to escape from.

This comes at a time when Saudi football is witnessing a noticeable development in terms of professionalism and investment, which makes such organizational errors more clear and criticized.

The most important question remains: Can Al-Raed make up for this shortage before it’s too late? Or will this start be an omen of a long and arduous season?
