“Foundation Day” .. A National Celebration of the Kingdom’s Ancient Roots
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is witnessing widespread celebrations today on the occasion of “Foundation Day,” which falls on February 22 of each year, commemorating the annual anniversary of the establishment of the first Saudi state by Imam Mohammed bin Saud in 1727 AD.
Under the slogan “The Day We Began,” government and private entities are organizing diverse events across various regions of the Kingdom, including heritage, folkloric, and cultural performances, in addition to fireworks displays and distributing gifts to citizens.
In this context, Saudi Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan Al Saud said in a press statement: “Foundation Day is a precious national occasion dear to all our hearts, in which we celebrate our ancient roots and glorious history, and remember the heroism and sacrifices of our fathers and grandfathers who established this blessed state.”
For his part, Dr. Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz Al-Sibai, Secretary-General of the National Committee for Celebrating Foundation Day, indicated that the celebrations include more than 3,000 events across various regions of the Kingdom, including 500 events in the capital Riyadh alone.
Al-Sibai added that the National Committee worked to organize diverse events befitting the status of “Foundation Day,” reflecting the depth of the Kingdom’s historical and civilizational roots, and strengthening values of belonging and loyalty to the homeland among new generations.
It is worth noting that the Saudi Council of Ministers issued a decision in January 2021 to adopt February 22 of each year as an official holiday called “Foundation Day,” in commemoration of the anniversary of the establishment of the first Saudi state by Imam Mohammed bin Saud in 1727 AD.
This year’s celebrations come amid the exceptional circumstances the Kingdom and the world are experiencing due to the Corona pandemic, where events were organized according to the necessary precautionary and preventive measures to ensure the safety of citizens and residents.
At the conclusion of the celebrations, Saudis affirm their pride in their ancient roots and history, their commitment to their wise leadership, and their determination to continue the path of construction, development, and progress that began three centuries ago and continues under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and his Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman – may God protect them both.

  • News Article – Benzema’s Return and Adaptation Period with Al-Ittihad

Karim Benzema, the Al-Ittihad striker, returned to team training on Friday after a month-long absence due to injury. His last appearance was in the match against Al-Shabab on September 20th.

Nuno Santo, the team’s head coach, stated in a press conference: “Benzema has gradually returned to training, and his condition is improving day by day. We are happy about his return and hope he will be ready for upcoming matches.”

The Portuguese coach added: “The current period is challenging for the players as we play a match every 3 or 4 days. We need good management of the players and to provide them with adequate rest.”

Al-Ittihad faces a congested schedule in the coming period, with four matches in just 11 days, including a derby against Al-Nassr next Tuesday.

Benzema was injured during the Al-Shabab match, leaving in the second half and not participating in any subsequent games. His absence raised questions about his future with the team, especially after reports suggested a possible departure in January.

However, Nuno Santo denied these reports, affirming that Benzema remains an important player for Al-Ittihad and that the team needs his services in the upcoming phase.

Benzema joined Al-Ittihad in the summer of 2023 from Real Madrid on a free transfer after his contract with the Spanish club ended. The French player has scored 4 goals and provided 3 assists in just 8 matches in the Saudi Professional League.

Al-Ittihad currently occupies third place in the league standings with 20 points from 9 matches, 4 points behind leaders Al-Hilal. The team aims to return to winning ways after drawing their last two matches against Al-Faisaly and Al-Taawoun.

Benzema’s return comes at a critical time for Al-Ittihad as they seek to maintain their chances in the title race, especially after recent performance declines.

Al-Ittihad fans hope Benzema’s return will contribute to improving the team’s performance and results, particularly in the upcoming decisive matches that will determine the team’s trajectory this season.
